The Woodsmen are foreigners who from the Dark Woods first appeared about a decade ago. They practice a different religion from that preached by the Oracles and speak a language which is unintelligible to the citizens of the Imperium. From what could be gathered after labored attempts to communicate with the Oracles’ leadership, they claimed to be fleeing a war taking place in their nation on the other side of the Dark Woods. When they asked for asylum inside Aurim, they were given the land that later became known as the Woodsmen’s Quarter in exchange for an agreement that they would not spread their religion except among their own people. Measures where also taken to limit their travel outside of the Woodmen’s Quarter by requiring travel visas and guard escorts when in other parts of the city.
As of yet, no Fated have been born among the Woodsmen. However, the Woodsmen’s very existence has caused many to question the all-knowing nature of the Oracles who have always said that only certain death exists for those who venture through the Dark Woods. Common explanation is that the Woodsmen are merely people from the Imperium who were foolish enough to venture into the Woods who have subsequently been transformed and returned many years later as the Woodsmen. As such, Woodsmen are generally regarded as bad luck, and most people believe them to be extensions of the Woods itself trying to lure them to their deaths.
